we have too many people on this planet and most of them in USA can afford car(s). in Europe and Asia traffic is limitedly control because they use mopads and scooters mostly. we have 7 billion people on the planet and probably 3 times more cars eventhough most of the countries are poor. imagine china and india....when they become fully developed in 20 years...u wont be able to walk.

Traffic exists because human beings have the mental capacity to operate a motor vehicle effectively and efficiently but they refuse to use that ability. Can't tell you how many times I've had to blow by people doing 55 MPH in the right lane when the speed limit is 65 MPH and they won't move over to the right for nuthin' or nobody. And I'm betting those people are sitting in their cars thinking to themselves "Look at all the lead-footed rat-racers, I'm a SAFE driver." If we want traffic jams to become a thing of the past, we'll have to get to the point where cars drive themselves.

Yahoo!'s online dictionary defines traffic as "the passage of people or vehicles along routes of transportation". So the answer to your question is that the just the presence of people or vehicles on a route of transportation is the reason why there is traffic. Perhaps in the future you should be more specific when you ask a question. I know what you're asking, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to be your mommy and write the question correctly for you. I spelled dammed wrong because if I spell it right it will get censored.

You are a thinker. Join the Hallitube Initiative, it combats traffic density.
Congestion is the biggest issue with low oil prices:
IT RISKS THE LOSS OF FOREIGN SCIENTISTS WHO LARGELY POWER U.S. RESEARCH EFFORTS AS THEIR HOME COUNTRIES ALL HAVE EXCELLENT TRANSIT INFRASTRUCTURE. The only viable solution is a highway-overpass-compatible PRT system called Hallitubes.

because a long time ago, this guy invented this thing called an automobile. and the purpose the automobile is to move from point A to point B. and, unfortunately, he shared this idea with the world, causing choas. becoming so mainstream, everyone started using this profound invention. therefore, creating traffic.

b/c everyone drives as if they are the only ones that are on the road and most drivers are inconsiderate pricks. plus, you got your pansies that are too afraid to move the car unless they have four car lenghts in every direction. and then you have your aholes like my self that just love to mess with everyone on the road by cutting off people, driving slow in the passing lanes. There are also way too many old people driving that really shouldn't be.

My theory is that traffic is part of a plot on the part of the sick and insidious international terrorist conspiracy to make it difficult for you and I to arrive quickly and easily at our destinations.
