It depends on who you ask.

If you talk to someone who has been through AA meetings, then the mere fact that you drink every day means you're an alcoholic. That's honestly one of their standards.

I have a few more realistic questions:

1 - Do you ever black out from drinking?

2 - Do you go to different liquor stores to buy your booze because you don't want the clerks to know how much you buy?

3 - Do you miss work because you're hung over?

4 - Do you behave differently when you're drunk? Are you embarrassed about the way you behaved?

If you answer yes to two of those questions, you may have a problem. If you're simply young and like to drink to relax, don't worry about it. Just don't drive. The penalties are absolutely outrageous. Look up the mandatory sentencing in your state. Trust me, it will scare you, and you can NOT get out of a DUI no matter who you are or who you know.

Go to: www.12steps. That is an a.a. & n.a. website that will give you all the information you need to decide for yourself. No one can decide for you, even though many will try. There isn't enough space on this site to go into all of the factors you need to discover for ourself, although you've already gotten alot of good answers. In A.A. "The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking." If you are wondering if you are an alcoholic, or if your family and/or friends are, you probably are. Please go to this wedsite and do yourself a favor, because your problem will only get worse in time. I am speaking from personal experience. A.A. is not the ONLY solution, it is simply the most widespread and easiest to find. There is also "Rational Recovery" and there is"adversion therapy" which works quite well. It sounds like you do not want to stop drinking. Try this: Write a little message to yourself in you journal or someplace where it won't be lost.(You can start your own journal, or "diary" from your computer.) Ask this same question to yourself, then go back to it occaisionally to see if you feel any differently about what you are saying today. When I was young, I just WANTED to drink every day too, and didn't HAVE to, but at some point I became physically addited to alcohol, it wasn't "fun" anymore, but I still had to drink to feel OKAY or NOT SICK.

According to the AMA alcoholoism is a progressive disease, that, if left untreated can result in all kinds of things, the most serious being death. I think more serious would be to end up in a vegetative state, but that's just my own personal opinion. I'm sure there are many, many recovering addicts/alcoholics out there who could tell you the same things I am, but it doesn't matter what other people think as much as it matter what YOU think.

Please, do yourself a favor before things get bad and think about this. At least peruse that website, for yourself and your loved ones. Thanks for reminding me. Bless you and I wish you all the health and happiness you deserve. (pls. pardon any misspellings, they would take to long to fix and I want to get this ansmer to you ASAP.

This test can indicate if you have a drinking problem or may be an alcoholic.
Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: 1 month
Here's How:
Drink two drinks, and only two, of your favorite alcoholic beverage, then stop.
Repeat this process, drinking only two drinks a day, for an entire month.
Do not 'save up' by skipping two drinks one day and having four the next.
Tips:
If you can honestly drink two and only two drinks a day for a month, chances are you do not have a drinking problem.
If you find that you cannot keep up the regime, and drink more than two, you may be an alcoholic or be alcohol dependent.

When your need for alcohol gets to the point beyond your control.

The occasional one peg or two drinker turns into a daily drinker and one is just not enough. The addiction could then lead to heavier bouts of drinking which can create a craving for alcohol on waking in the morning with the excuse of having a reviver and so on.

It is all a matter of your will power and how you exercise it to stay in control of your body's needs. Do not let your WANTS get the better of your NEEDS. God bless.

When you are an alcoholic, you are selfish, you don't eat a lot, you drink too much no matter what you have to do the next day, you hide your alcohol, you don't listen to the ones who care about you, you spend all your money on alcohol, you get DDT's when you don't have alcohol, you put your drinking buddies before you family, you may be violent, and you let your children drive for you when you are too drunk.

If you have ask the question, "How do you know if you're an alcoholic." then possiby... alcoholics are people who drink every day, once a year, or never at all. Its a disease, and needs to be diagnosed by a professional, just like any other disease.

Sounds to me like you are on the road to becoming an alcoholic, if not already. Try not drinking for a week and see if you can. If you have to have a drink, then you need to seek help.

The difference between an alcoholic and a heavey drinker is simply this. An alcoholic feels guilty about drinking heavy.

If Honey Nut Cheerios just plain taste better with Pabst Blue Ribbon, you might be an alcoholic.
