a new system was put into place last november (with my phone company), stating that, ulness you set up a pre-paid account, you could not receive collect jail calls. my boyfriend has not been able to get through to me since, thus, i was wondering if a pre-paid phone card would allow him access?

I am going through the same thing. I ended up contacting correctionalbillingservices.com and they told me they are the only way you can unblock your phone. You can use Western Union if you dont have a debit or credit card. Also, depending on your phone company they can add it to your phone bill. I bought a phone card thinking he could use it and everyone thought I was dumb. I guess your not allowed to use these.

I know that in the jail I work at the inmates are not allowed to have a pre-paid phone card and I imagine it's the same in most jails. They are able to make collect calls and their friends/families can opt for a pre-paid plan with an initial minimum deposit of $50.00 with Correctional Billing Services. The line may also have a block on it and you will have to have the block removed by calling them.

If memory serves me correctly...you can talk to your telephone provider about an "advanced payment" plan.

Additionally, if you use a "pre-paid" phone card with a cellular telephone...you can use that for incoming calls until the card has depleted its' funds.

Phone calls made from MOST jails are through a private service which also provides recording service for the staff to insure illegal activities are not occurring while the individual is incarcerated...so...the calls are expensive.

However, a pre-paid cellphone card should rectify your problem!

Best wishes!

Which country? state? Call your state Dept of Corrections and ask about inmate prepaid cards. many states now offer that option (grudgingly... it is a popular concept with state prison bureaucrats that inmates should be further punished by making their families pay draconian prices for phone time....)
Costco MCI card 700 minutes for $20, State of Wa DOC prepaids almost $1 a minute... nice people huh?Good luck.
