At five days you will not see the final outcome of your tattoo. The top layer, epidermis, is too opaque at this time and you will not see through to the full color until fully healed and more transparent in appearance.

Let the tattoo heal completely before losing hope on the tattoo. I've had a couple that had me worried as to the color (i wanted mine to fade though) and the tattoos always pulled through for me.
Worst case scenrio, he didn't set the ink in deep enough and you're going to need a touch up. Don't worry too much. You'll just have to undergo a little more pain. And he should do it for free so you won't be shelling out cash-flow.
If he has a hard time getting the ink to set, I'd suggest going to a different artist next time. Touch-ups are kind of painful and not worth it. You need an artist that can whip out a great tattoo first time around.
As for scabbing, your tattoo shouldn't be scabbing all over the place. It should be smooth (but raised) the whole way through unless its flaking.
You need to be washing it more. Or try switching your lotion and antibacterial soap, it could be irritating it.
Everyone I know now is suggesting Aveeno instead of Lubiderm and whatever crazy stuff people recommend. Maybe try that.

thats probably an artist that cant pack colour solid. Go back and show them, any good artist guarantees their work and should touch it up for free. The other option why its pale is that their ink was not good quality/wrong ink. Theres more than simply black to tattoo with, certain blacks are intended to heal grey and if someone doesnt know better that can be the result. Did you pick the scab at all? If so you may have accidentally pulled chunks of colour out. What did u heal it with? that also can affect the black being pale. A & D contains a zinc oxide which makes black dull and bluish after its healed.

That could just be the scab over the top of your tattoo. Once that comes off you'll see what the colour is like.
It may well be a little patchy, and need a little touch-up. Your tattooist will be happy to do this for you when its healed

How thick is the scab? If your tat feels like sandpaper, it shouldn't be too bad to touch up. If it feels like a shell over your tat, you got a bad tat and when the scab breaks off, it will leak colors out.
If your scabbing is any thicker than just feeling like a fine sheet of sandpaper, you've been butchered. Don't go back there. Have someone else touch it up.

after you get a tattoo it'll normally look like fudge for 2 weeks during healing...it always happens, but it'll heal up nice...well it should if you do what you're supposed too.
