I would recommend the Kodak Easy Share Camera. I think they come up to around 8 megapixil or so now (mine has 6). But I have had AWESOME luck with mine! It is right around $200, works great, gets great battery life, and takes video. You can also choose specific settings such as Museum (no sound, no flash), Fireworks, Portrait...etc. Plus, it has a Schneider-Kreuznach optical zoom lens- which I hear is pretty sweet in the photography world. I'm certainly no pro, but I am a parent with a LOVE of pictures!

Kodak EasyShare is an awesome camera the only thing i don't like about it is that the battery power is always a hassle but thats just bcuz i don't have a rechargeable charger at my reach and i have to go to my neighbors house to charge them but anyways it takes really good pictures nice and detailed you have all kinds of settings on it for the kind of area your in like for instance you are taking a picture at a beach it has a sunny setting on it just for that kind of scenery. Sometimes you may by accident get red eye on your picture but if you download the software that comes with the camera you can stick your chip into the computer and edit the picture and put the edited version into the chip. You can even add special effects to your pictures like black and white or cartoon looking or coloring book and also you can adjust your background and everything In case the background is too dark. Hope that helps....

I enjoy my Canon Powershot A540. Good basic features but it also has more advanced features for when you get better with it. It also has a snap ring where you attach other lenses such as wide angle, telephoto and polarization. There is also an external wireless flash available and one of the most cool things is you can get a waterproof case that lets you go 30 or 40 meters underwater with it. Very good for basic features but also a very expandable camera.

I just bought a Canon PowerShot A540 for about $175.00 and I'm very happy with it. Now, you have to understand that I was a maintenance troop with Air Force Combat Camera for over three years, so I'm picky when it comes to cameras. If $175.00 is more than you want to spend, I'd say any Canon digital camera is a good buy. They went heavily into digital cameras before Nikon did, and it shows -- the Nikon digital cameras are more expensive and not as good.
