I would like to think so but after all theese with all those that died for the cause of making the world a better place for us all and seemingly it has actually become a more unsafe place for all or us. So many gone and for what?

Read the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis (you can find it on-line at www.biblegateway.com). His one life made a difference for two nations, Egypt and Israel. While not all lives make differences that can be seen by so many, I think any good done by anyone is equally important.
