What's wrong with today's Arabs? We've been asleep for five centuries. Not one of our countries is a democracy, not ONE. We have high rates of illiteracy and unemployment and many of us live below the poverty line. We approve of child marriage, flogging, stoning, and a God-given right to physically abuse our wives centuries after these practices were at least theoretically abandoned by the civilized world. Our women are still undereducated and underrepresented in our governments and many are illiterate and don't even know they have rights. Our criticism of everything Israeli and Western while we turn a blind eye to every one of our own faults has won us a notorious reputation for double standards. We brutalized our Jews and 99.5% of them fled, and the Bahais and Christians will follow suit because, apart from Lebanon, none of our countries has a clean religious rights record. And the problem will not change because we refuse to acknowledge its existence.

And yes, I'm Arab, an Egyptian who doesn't think like one, and this phenomenon is crystal-clear to me. Why don't we just modernize and secularize? Why don't we just abide by international standards of human and women's rights? When will we realize that our problems are coming from ABSOLUTE FAITH in beliefs, practices, and traditions that simply do not work in the modern world, and that there is a need for change and reform?

Why so negative? Arabs have invented a lot of useful things throughout history. It's just now it's time to move on. Grow up. Evolve like the rest of society.

Personally, I feel very humbled that you would ask these questions and ask us for our opinions. You possess a keen understanding of human rights violations and how they are effecting your world. I know many of us profess that we treat people humanely in the U.S. but I do have to look at the actions/opinions/attitudes around me and wonder if we are anymore civilized. I have certain ideas but it seems to me that your not really wanting an answer, you just needed to vent your frustrations. I wish everyone peace, health, love and freedom especially in lands where there is so much suffering. I wish one day (maybe today) that you feel peace and compassion and feel proud that you are sensitive to the pain of others.

I think every group has its share of problems. Living in America, I sometimes ask myself that too, why are WE so backward. There is a minority of people pushing that excess is normal (money, sex, etc.) having MORE MORE MORE of everything is good. Too much of any one thing is destructive and eats at you from within.
It's hard to raise kids in that environment when other people tell them that what they have is somehow not good enough, even though it is pefectly fine.
I think this gives other nations the impression that we are all sex and money obsessed, while most are just families like you trying to get by day to day.
So I guess my answer to you would be perhaps we ALL need to look inside ourselves and try to live in balance with what is in our hearts, not by what others tell us. I have no joy in seeing people killed by war, no matter what side they are on. Children are children like mine, women are women like my sisters--no matter what nation or color, we all bleed red.
I would like to live my life, not to force my views on others, but in such a way that people will look at the sum of my life and my everday actions and say that I am THEIR sister too.
I understand your struggle...and maybe the people in the middle road will someday make a difference...one by one.
May God Bless You Always!

Do you actual imagine its sturdy to have that a lot firepower in the palms of your so-called "undesirable" human beings? more desirable straight away, definite, that's extremely important to address the worries that there is no longer adequate get admission to to psychological well being care, and see if there are underlying subject matters that could want to reason our subculture to be at danger of violence. yet that does no longer advise we are able to not take guns faraway from the crazies in the advise time. you may address cultural subject matters in the adventure that they exist even as concurrently proscribing get admission to to guns, noticeably attack rifles, in the advise time. this isn't a "one or the different" proposition.

or
confront them and defeat them!
With one will you choose?
Acknowledge your existence and the existence of Our Creator and create a private, personal, direct, divine relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul and then all your other problems and issues will be resolved! I promise!

Only one answer I can think of....poverty. The rulers take all of the money from the oil and jewel trade, and leave everyone else destitute. This causes adherence to strong ideologies.
