It's 22 miles from LAX to Downtown Long Beach. Your mileage may vary, depending on where you are going.

I don't know what the previous poster was thinking, but the 405 is rarely smooth, especially through the South Bay Curve. Depending on the time of day, this can really be a tough drive.

The local joke goes like this: Know why they call it the 405? because you go 4 o' 5 mile per hour, and it takes 4 o' 5 hours to get where you are going!

As an alternative, have you thought of flying into Long Beach? Jet Blue flies there, the planes are nice and each seat has a TV. The fares are low, too.

Good luck!
