Because some people are sincerly concerned about your health and the terrible consequences of what can happen with continued smoking. They may be concerned about the effect of smoke on your children, too.
On the other hand there are people who just like to be rude and self righteous and interfere with another persons life style.
Back in the good old days, just about everyone smoked and the ones who didn't were the odd persons or women. Back in the good old days women who smoked had loose morals if you get my drift.
Over all though, people who smoke are simply socially unacceptable. They are seen as weak, unable to quit something that's so obviousely unhealthy.
You have to take a choice.
Either continue doing something that's already unacceptable in most indoor places. Knowing that it's harming your body; ie., heart and lungs, circulatory system and nearly every aspect of your health.
Or quit!
But, I know it's hard to quit because it took me forever to finally win my battle over addiction to smoke.

Good question! I've heard it a million times myself! Sometimes when my heavy set girlfriend says it to me I just want to yell at her and say well food is your bad habit! And yet I never do. Smokers care it's an addiction just like drinking etc. Good Luck to you! I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. Tired of smoking outside! (and now trying to stop again!) lol

I am a former smoker. I can care less if people smoke. My only problem is now that I regained my ense of smell, the smell of smoke on people is distgusting and makes me want to puke.
I do not agree with the smoking bamn in bars - there should be bars for non-smokers & bars for smokers. the non smoking bar will make a fortune and the smoking bars will make whatever they make.
I do agree with the idea that it shoul dbe made illegal to smoke in a car with a young child. there is no need for the child to be forced to breath in 2nd hand smoke. As a smoker i NEVER smoked with my nieces in the car - or any child for that matter
Tell people to mind their business. When & if you decide to smoke, check out www.quitnet.com The people that frequent the site helped me a ton and i have been quit for 76 - almost 77 days.
BTW, I have saved $500 so far!!!
Smoke if you want - nobody honestly cares if it affects your health or not. Don't infringe on other people though and be courteous! It is you life. Your health. Do what you wil with it.

cuz people in general are loud, obnoxious, and rude. they think you're rude or wrong for smoking, or for smoking near them anyway. they need to look into american/world history, so they will realize that they are the ones who are being rude by bothering you with their opinions. man and tobacco have gone hand in hand in this country for hundreds if not thousands of years. so, i say, smoking is a personal choice that honestly is no one else's business but your own, and don't even get me started on the rest of it... look up Genesis chapter 1 in the good book, and tell me that it's wrong to smoke the plants that grow from the ground. every seed-bearing plant was put on the earth for the use of mankind. i once went to a quit-smoking class, on day one, we asked the instructor if she had ever smoked... she answered -no, on day two, maybe 1/3 of the smokers trying to quit were back in class. you can't take smoking advice from someone who has never smoked. it would be asinine to do so. good luck... gotta go, need a ciggy.

Here ye, Here ye. People need to mind their own business. I think we should start telling fat people that they need to be more careful of what they eat. I know smoking is bad it even says so on the box. It's really hard to stop.

I won't say it is. I'm not self-righteous like a lot of people. It's funny how people think they are doing you a favor by saying stupid things to you. It's the same as alcohol, people will always smoke too. We know how bad it is for us. They don't care they just want to be irritating. Blow smoke in their face.

Non-smokers are probably more worried about their own health being damaged by your smoking than yours. If you smoke in the confinement of your own house as long as there are no children there then it is your own problem.

Maybe you have smoker's cough, smoker's breath, nicotine stained hands/teeth, or smoky clothes, and maybe they care about you and your increased health risks: emphysema, lung cancer, etc
There is nothing good about cigarettes or smoking.

My response to people telling me how bad my smoking is this: you know my bad habit, what's yours? see I can do my bad habit in front of everyone and you can't, so that tells me yours is worse. they usually shut up after all that.
