I don't necessarily know that it would do anything FOR any of the worlds religins, but I can gues what it would do TO the worlds religions.

IF the existance of extra-terrestrial life was someday proven, a great many of the world religions would have to rethink there belief that the universe exists for out beneifts and no other reason. Especially as any extra-terrestrial life that could make contact would be so far advanced that their civilization would have to be centuries even millinea older than humanity. It would require a rethink about the humano-centricity of the worlds religions as well as the idea that the earth is somehow special and unique in the universe (that alst would have to be done by just about everyone acutally).

I am Christian but I personally believe that there are millions of inhabited planets by people who look very much like us. Most, if not all of them are more advanced than we.

How can I be a Christian and believe this you ask? Because I am not so narrow minded as to believe that this is the only one of Gods creations to have human life. I do not believe that the only purpose of all the stars in the sky is for us to have something pretty to look at at night. And there is nothing in the Bible that indicates this either.

My particular brand of Christianity teaches that God's creations are numberless, at least to us as we cannot conceive of numbers that high. We believe that his creations number more than the sands of the sea. That's huge.

poseidenneptune had it correct. Pat Robertson is already warning people that aliens are Fallen Angels. Which I guess means that Heaven is actually Jupiter, and the Big Red Hurricane Spot is actually God doing a whirly dance.

They would come up with some ridiculous explanation for it and still go on believing. Thats what they do they come upwith often completely wrong reasons for why something happened and the people beieve it because.... The Pope said so, or Allah said so. Its stupid that people can be so easily swayed.

Most religious people believe despite the evidence, so I don't think seeing Aliens will change their mind.

About as much as discovering a new species of life on earth would.

PS they'd HAVE to be more advanced than us in order to meet them, since we can't get beyond the orbit of our own moon...

Some would realize their notions of occupying a special place in the universe were wrong. Some would bury their heads even deeper in the sand.

Nothing. People who are determined to believe in imaginary beings, worlds, and events will always continue to do so.

Anyone who can believe in Noah’s flood and creationism is immune to empirical reality and will continue to believe in the absurd, regardless of the evidence.
