Just got a Canon Eos 400D camera and was looking for a not too expensive wide angle lens. I was wondering if anyone knew any good ones for not so much money? Or is that a contradiction? Thanks!

It depends on what you mean by wide angle... and inexpensive.
The kit lens is a $100 18-55mm zoom. When you take the 400D's focal length multiplier into account, you effectively have a 29-88mm lens. I'd call 29mm wide angle. And $100 is cheap. So that just might do the trick.
If you need to go wider than that, you're looking at a $400 minimum investment. There's a Sigma 10-20mm, a Tokina 12-24mm, and a Tamron 11-18mm for around that price. And then for considerably more money, there's a Sigma 12-24mm and a Canon 10-22mm.
