isn't the concept of religion just copied off the original?
its like...i just claim to the world that i have invented the cure for HIV...all that follows is a copy. then how come that concept isn't true for religion? if there is one religion...all the others that follows is a copy...your thoughts?

Because religion was made by man. And different versions were made in different parts of the world. In those days they were isolated so they did not know of other faiths. Then after trading began some were favored over others. And now you got what you see before you. It's impossible to know the first religion as there was probably a god before written records. I would say pagan is the oldest religion I can think of.

Actually dumpllin you are wrong some historians believe that the god Mithras was a lot like Jesus. Born from a virgin birth. Died for our sins and then was ressurected. Hmmmm who does that remind you of? Original sin is so retarded why would god kill someone to rid the world of sin? Why not just do it anyway.

All religion is rooted in shamanism, which is a direct experience of the immanent spiritual nature of the world around us. While it is easy for modern man to dismiss "spirits," shamanism has existed in every human culture with strikingly similar patterns and visions. While some dismiss this as hallucinations caused by the phytopharmaceuticals often ingested during shamanic rituals, it should be noted that different hallucinogens produce different effects, and there is no univerally-existing hallucinogen to produce such homogenous results.
Only a few are "chosen" to be shamans, however; this leads to the evolution of gnostic traditions. Gnosticism, sufism, and tantric Buddhism and Brahmanic Hinduism are all examples of this, in which altered states of consciousness and personally meaningful ritual enable many seekers to break down the walls of objective consciousness and experience the transcendent unity underlying the universe. Again, this is a near-universal practice with nearly identical description given by proponents from all over the world.
Unfortunately, the mystical experience of the Gnostics is essentially a left-brained function; it cannot be truly verbally expressed (this is why ancient gnostic sects were referred to as "Mystery Schools"). Any given gnostic who achieved a true mystical experience could attempt to teach others--and it generally works for about a generation. After that, the culturally-guided symbolism intended to guide followers into mystical states becomes mistaken for literal truth.
And that mistake is where all of the different religions claiming the "one true way" come from.

Just because the first religion was the original doesn't make it right. People will twist things and work things so they work better in there favor. Thats why there are many religions nstead of one. Someone got upset with the way religion was going and said well i'm splitting off and making my own religion. Henry the 8th split from the catholic church because he wanted a divorce and the church wouldn't let him, he formed the Anglican church which is nearly Identical to Catholicism. But who cares all religions are man made and stupid. They are all wrong and will never unify, that will be there downfall.

Can't name the first religion, no one can. Long before recorded history people worshiped things that they thought had power over them, the Sun, the Moon, etc. The idea of a known God or supreme being does go back quite a ways in history though. How people worship that God has changed from time to time.
Christians, like me, believe that Jesus was born and died to show us just who and what our God is. All Christian religions come from the first Christian church which was Catholic, or at least that is what my history lessons show me. And one should note here that the Jewish faith believes in the Messiah but that he has not come yet. They do not believe Jesus was that Messiah.

The first beliefs must have come with the first conciousness. Seeing awsome thing happen leads to wonder and without knowledge and understanding result in beliefs in something greater that is causing things to happen. The next step would be trying to make this something (god) happy and fearing its displeasure (storms/earthquakes etc). Lastly comes the clever sod that realises by claiming direct contact with the god he can control and lead his tribe (get rich, have lots of wives etc). All the religions now are just variations on this. Science seeks to explain reality without a god and is eroding the basis of religion all the time. In self defence the powerful leaders of religions say science is wrong and their version is the only truth.. and still fools believe.

The first religion was most likely pagan and involved sun worship. Monotheism is only about 6000 years old (based on when writings began)

On a general note, I should point out, Religion is a human construct, Man made God in his Image.

Human beings grow through the ages in insight and wisdom. New religions have new insights. It's also worthwhile, IMHO, to return to the ancient religions to learn about insights they had which we may have forgotten.

The original religion was paganism, BTW. Probably Goddess-oriented. Read Marija Gimbutas.

The first religion was ANIMISM...the belief that all things were sacred and had a soul. Animism is still practiced...and you find that even Christians tend to be a little animist once in a while....like thinking that posting the 10 commandments in a courthouse is going to stop criminals dead in their tracks.

It is not possible to name the first religion created by man, nor can we know the history of it, since religion developed in prehistory.

Religion is a product of the culture in which it emerges. Since there are numerous cultures, there will be numerous religions.
