My roommates dog has the worst gas, and he acts so shocked everytime he toots. he is a half boxer half mastiff so it is hardly a toot, but "the toots" seem to shock and amaze him everytime one slips. As soon as he hears the "toot sound" he looks behind him like,,,what the heck was that?,,,,then he will obviously get a wiff of that mystery sound, watch anyone who is in the room say profanities and freak out, and lay there as if it is all a big game. Almost like he thinks that we don't know that "the toots " are coming from him. Oh, and this is not anything new, he is 7 years old and his name is Stinky. no joke. :) I also had a dog who acted puzzled everytime he passed gas. Since it wasn't a common thing, I thought maybe my dog REALLYdidn't know it was himself. But now that I am witness to stinky's wonderful talent....I just wonder maybe if dogs have a sense of humor, and are so much more "in tune with their surroundings" than we give them credit for?.

Yes they can and do have a sense of humor. Though not all display it. Mine used to gobble down her food then get in my oldest daughter's face and burp then grin about it. The oldest one laughed about it once so she continued to do that every chance she got.
But she too has the toot problem on occasion and she honestly acts like it shocks her. I don't know if she is trying to say I didn't mean to do that...or what.

Dogs do have a sense of humor, definitly but I do believe this occurrence you are talking about is from YEARS of training from humans...Yep... humans have trained dogs for years that when they hear a "toot" (NO MATTER WHERE IT COMES FROM) they must turn around and check their backside. This was originated by men trainers and then adapted by elderly female trainers so that when *º¤ø,¸¸¸,ø¤º*gas *º¤ø,¸¸¸,ø¤º* would escape their human bodies the dogs knew to "take the fall." The training goes back soooo far that it is now genetically passed down.......teeeeeeeeeeee

Stinky has obviously learned the art of farting and blaming it on someone else.
I think he's saying 'Who slipped that one.? No.it wasn't me?
Honest it wasn't.Cor this is disgusting.Whoops -there goes another.
Dunno what you had for dinner.Ha ha
Yeh,I'm in tune with my surroundings alright. But you mate are more in tune with your a***.Why is everybody lookin at me? Why you puttin me out.? What have I done? It was John.or Pete or Amy but IT WASN'T ME.
Oh all right then -it was.Just this once.
Now can I come back in please?
