why is it in some versions of the quaran at verse 33.59?

Question

some people tamper with it by adding in brackets to the words in effect meaning women should be entierely covered except for their eyes. the original doesent specefcially state this all it says it they should cover their bodies and dress modestly. not cover their faces and completely hide themselves. why do the transleters do this cant they leave the book alone rather than tampering with it to what they beleive is right

For you info the original Koran was written using a different Arabic than today's Arabic. So sometimes in the translation, the translators puts in his own words to clarify the context and also to correct the meaning of the translation. Anyway, since they put it in brackets, its then up to us to decide whether to use them as the correct intepretation or not. Like in english, if someone says "This suits me to a T", if you translate it literally to another language, its not going to make any sense.

Ahmed Ali

O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters, and the women of the faithful, to draw their wraps a little over them. They will thus be recognised and no harm will come to them. God is forgiving and kind.

Nobel Quran

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e.screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allâh is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful.

Pickthal

O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.

Shakir

O Prophet! say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they let down upon them their over-garments; this will be more proper, that they may be known, and thus they will not be given trouble; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Firstly it's not versions it's translations. I've only ever seen it once on an Islamsoft translation I downloaded, but they have put in their e.g. letting you know that it is them and not the Quran.

It's best to have few translations or if you realy want to learn Arabic.

Because they can't control themselves so they will control everyone else. They couldn't get laid on their own, so they force it, they don't like being insulted by women they can't please so they remove their clits so they won't ever be pleased.
