There's nothing that good sold over the counter. The best thing to do would be to see a doctor and ask for a prescription for something "as needed" Tell them you have occasional anxiety and they might give you something like Ativan or Xanax. It probably will be a small amount with no refills, but it's worth a shot.
If you're into herbal remedies, try Valerian, Kava, or St Johns Wort. But be careful if you're taking other meds, since these can all cause major drug interactions.

Yeah, it's called vodka (just kidding).
I wouldn't recommend Benadryl; it makes some people flip out instead of calming down.
I'm not aware of any effective anti-anxiety pills available OTC. I'd get a prescription for an "as needed" anxiolytic like xanax or ativan (some people won't write it though, because so many people are "drug seekers" and just want these for fun), or a mild anti-depressant to take every day. The anti-depressant is especially effective if you have anxiety frequently, and there are some cheap prescription options.

Sorry, but you should talk to your doctor about this one. "Chill pills" can be dangerous for some people. Your best bet is to get the Rx pills. That way you are under professional supervision, know exactly what you are getting into, and have a good avenue to go through if it doesn't work. Safety first!!

Valarian root is a good herbal product for anxiety.
It is thought to affect the GABA receptors in the very same way that alprazolam and diazepam does. You would take 400-900mg a day (I would divide the doses to three times a day). I wouldn't suggest taking it on a regular bases because one of the main side effects is halitosis(really bad breath). Other side effects include head ache, excitability, and uneasiness.

St. John's Wort is used extensively in Europe instead of Prozac-you'd be looking at a more steady intake though. Benadryl is taken for anxiety sometimes but will probably cause drowsiness.

There's an herbal floral preparation which works wonders on panicky cats. They also are recommending it for people, called "Rescue Remedy" spray. It's pretty expensive, but you can get it at a holistic veterinary practice or buy it online (see the reference below.) I only used it a few times on my cats, for riding in the car and for weaning one of my cats from an addiction.

I've heard that Valerian can help promote relaxation. I hope it helps. I am a school psychologist and I know a lot of people who suffer from exam stress...it is pretty common. Talk to your school health center, they might be able to make a recommendation for you.
Good luck.
