During the 2 months of working in New York, i was a resident of Florida. But my employer has insisted that 100% of my income be reported on my W2 as earnings from the state of New York, thereby subjecting it to New York State Tax. Someone please help.

If you earned the income in NY, you have to pay NY tax on it regardless of your home state's tax status.

If you are a resident of NY at the time the income was earned in Florida, then you are subject to NY tax on that income.

if you truly were a resident of both states at different times during the year, you will have to pay tax to each as part-time resident. Various states do the mechanics differently, but they each will give you credit for tax paid to another state, so that you are paying state tax to each state based upon what you earned in each state. It gets messy sometimes

New York is one of those states that you have to pay NY State tax regardless of where you made the rest of your income.

you're supposed to file a NYS tax return if you earned income in NY. if youre not a NY resident you would file IT-203 for part-year and non-residents. you would pay tax on only the amount earned in NY ($6,000). if you were a NY resident, you would be required to pay tax on the total amount.
