how to make a hole for ice fishin? there are a couple of ways of makeing a hole for ice fishing, the best way is to use an ice auger, i recmend useing a gas auger that the fastes way to drill a hole. if your a fisherman that like to move around on ice use a gas auger, if you stay in one spot you can use a hand auger. it take a little longer and it is more work on the hands and shoulders but it will get the job done. Like me i like to fish a hole for about an hour and if i dont get any bites then i will try another spot. people with gas auger will drill about 10 holes around a certain area and then try it. if there is no bites they move on.
there is also a chipper it is a long metle pole with a sharp edge and it will chip away ice that work good too. you can chips away a larger hole for bigger fish. augers come in different size 6" 8" 10" 12" , that the holes size. I made me an home made ice chipper i use a lonemoer blade and sharpen one end and i rap the rest whit duck tape to hold it, it work just find.
gas auger $200 - $300
hand auger $30 - $100

either an ice auger that is crank operated or gas operated. In some places you use about 2 sticks of dynamite and a 2minute fuse, don't need to bring fishing equipment that way.
