I am looking for stories that ended well. Either they bought the house and it ended up being the best thing ever or they broke up and everything ended up being ok. (They sold the house and ended up making money etc.) I am considering buying a house with my boyfriend of three years and I want to hear some positive real life situations that have come from buying a house with a boyfriend. Thanks!

I did it, and two of my best friends have done it as well and it all turned out on a positive note. Everything can end fine if you think look at it as a business transaction. In the case of my two friends, one ended up getting married, but the other remains single and still lives together. They each are on the title and the mortgage. They have equal say and share of the house. However in my situation, to protect myself I bought the house solely in my name and we live together. There are drawbacks when it comes to our taxes, but at least I know if we split I have no worries as to who is going to keep the house (I have two kids that are not his that I have to think about).
As you see there are many scenarios to you situation, and all could work out in the end if you go into it smart. There is no guarantee into the future, boyfriends and girlfriends break up just as married couples divorce. So in the end the conclusion is the same, think with your head not with your heart. Know what you are signing and protect yourself. Once all the T's are crossed and your I's are dotted, then you can sit back and enjoy what you both have accomplished.

I am unsure why you would only like to hear the positive. I do not know what State you live in however, if you are looking at this from a business deal to make money then that is one thing. If you are looking for marriage that is something Else. From an investment out look The prices on homes are dropping. They are expected to drop over the next year. Can you afford the house on your own? If he can not pay or leaves before you sell it can you afford caring coasts? Can you rent it out worst case? Remember once you buy a property in order to sell for a profit unless you are flipping a house you would need 3-5 years to make any kind of money. If you are doing this because you want to live together then that is a different story I would not do it. Let him buy you a ring and get married. I say this because why do you want to play house with a guy where you have no benefits as a wife but will play the part as one? The people I know who did this that it worked for has one thing in common. All the guys were talking about marriage and had a wedding date set prior to buying the house. Some moved in together and others the guys just moved in. The difference was they had a wedding date set. They were happy stories.

I wish I could give you a happy story. But life is not a fairytale. We bought a house after being together for 7 yrs. were now married. Still have the house. But we have went through the very, very, roughest of times. We have almost split up, almost lost the house twice. Things are meant to go in a natural order. But soceity today just seems to continue to do "Their thing".
I wouldn't advice buying a house with any man you are not in a committed marriage with. I don't know how old you are? But people get blind when they are a certain age. And in a new relationship. You are in a new relationship until you have been together for 5-7 yrs. See if he puts the home in his name and you guys broke up, even if you helped him make the payments, he could put you out on the street with no compensation to you. If you are married you get half. I hope I helped to maybe open your eyes a little. Good Luck! If you need more assisstance, write me:highlyblessed@hotmail.com

Well my daughter and her boyfriend bought a townhouse together several years ago. After 1 1/2 years in the townhouse, my daughter tells him, hey it's time to put that ring on my finger or you can hit the highway. So they married. 4 years now, they have 4 cats, for which they have to keep separated because they fight so badly. But the my daughter and son n law are about ready to sell the townhouse and move to Arkansas. So there are happy endings. Good Luck!

Not a boyfriend, but I bought a house with my girlfriend a few years back. We got married about 2 years later and have been very happy ever since.

Oh, and we paid 180K and the house is now worth 350K.

I don't have a happy story but the ones that turn out badly all seem to have a common denominator: the couple didn't have a plan except that they were together. I'd highly suggest approaching it as a business proposition (contracts and all) just to cover both of you in case your relationship turns sour.

I don't have a happy or sad story, so I apologize. I just wanted to say please really think about it before you risk your entire financial future on someone that hasn't yet pledged their life away to you. Good Luck
