Minimum exercise recommended by the CDC, NIH, other government agencies and large health-related advocacy groups is 30 minutes, 3 times a week.
Obviously, if you can do more, that's good. Curves is kind of a gimmick, in that it is geared towards women who are not used to exercise. It helps to develop the habit.

This is a good question. Curves has it's benefits if you need to get a quick session in once in a while or you are just starting an exercise program. It's not enough cardio/resistance in the long run. As your body adjusts to the program, it no longer feels challenged and that's the whole point of exercising. Mixing it up so that you don't get bored and so your metabolism is constantly being challenged.
I do things I enjoy about 5 to 6 days a week like Tae Bo, power yoga, resistance training. Some activities last an hour and some a little over an hour. My mom was trying to lose weight and joined Curves but plateaued at a certain point. Once she added in some heftier cardio (she likes doing the Richard Simmons tapes)
she lost weight much faster. I hope this helps.

With resistance or weights you want to work out three times a week.
You will get some results with any program you choose. I prefer a more formal gym
