Phuket will always be crowded, being a popular tourist area. So if you choose to go there, be prepared to join the crowd.
There are a number of beaches in Phuket. The more popular one is Patong Beach and if you stay away from that place, it should be less crowded.
Look at www.tourismthailand.org on the places and attractions in Phuket that you may want to visit. Look at www.asiarooms.com for possible places to stay and make your judgement.
You can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com if you have other query.

Check out www.hoteltravel.com, and look for the links to Phuket Hotels. The website will show you maps and locations of all the hotels in the area, as well as reviews. I think if you stay away from Patong, Kata and Karon beaches you will find the beaches much less crowded, and many of the hotels will have their own private beaches. Depending on your budget, the finest hotels in Phuket tend to be more isolated, although there are many more reasonably priced hotels that offer more privacy. Have fun!

Dusit Laguna Resort, and get the Dusit CLub Room. Great service, great location by the beach. You get a private patio with a private sundeck just steps away from the beach, and the beach is accessed by guests only so you don't have to fight for beach chairs (which are free, cos in Patong or Karon you have to pay).
But anyway, check out asiarooms.com for the best value.
