Question about mailing?

I want to mail something, but if I put it in an envelope it would most likely bust, so I want to put it in a small box. The problem is, I've never mailed anything this way before, and I don't know if it costs more, where to do it, if I have to go to the post office, and stuff like that. If anybody knows anything, it'd be appreciated.

go to post office, go in the area where there is always a line of ppl waiting and desks where postal workers are standing. tell the postal workers u want to mail the package and need to know cost. they will weigh it and tell u how much. u then purchase stamps or have them put one big stamp on it. and ur done :)
