I had all four wisdom teeth extracted a week ago. I have since had terrible pain, foul breath, and many sleepless nights. I'm pretty sure I have dry socket and I'm going to see the surgeon today for a checkup and to remove my stitches. Please, please, PLEASE tell me that they will be able to make this pain stop! I've read several methods in treating dry socket. Which one will they likely choose?

Hello October,

I'm sorry for all your pain. Time will take care of things eventually, however, if you have a dry socket, the best method of treating it is to have it packed with a material the dentist/surgeon uses which is soaked in a solution of numbing medication. This packing may have to be changed a few times before sufficient healing takes place. Good luck!

I as well had dry sockets, in two of my four that i had removed. I got mine by kissing my boyfriend..yeah bad idea!! The Oral Surgeon will most likely stuff the socket with clove oil leaves/strips. They'll also gove you a mint afterward. It will sting and you will salivate a lot, they'll give you some pain medicine as well.

Just do what they say and take the meds if you have mroe pain. The clove strips really really work!

Unfortunately, I too, have suffered from dry socket on more than one occasion..the pain is from having some of the bone exposed..and yes, the pain is intense. The only thing that helped me was Percocette and anti-inflamatories OTC....I went to my local emergency med place (after hours...), and all they could do for me was a prescription for more Percocette (my dentist was stingy with it)..and a topical application of lidocaine (which helps to numb the area)...short of that, I'm afraid I have no good news for you other than the fact that it WILL get better....
Here's hoping your oral surgeon can do something for you....
