The reason i ask is that my son who is 4 has Cystic Fibrosis, and the cost of his medicins add up to around £1000 p/m, that does not include his hospital treatment when he is admited, but i understand there are women who cant get breast cancer drugs, which could save there lives because of the cost
Please tell me about you good and bad experiences
I predict there will be more bad than good

well, back in november 1983 some foolish person decided to sideswipe me off my kawasaki and leave me for dead. the subsequent services provided to me by the NHS not only saved my life, they also rebuilt my smashed mangled body.

i lost a leg and the use of my right arm, my visor shattered and gashed my face open... they fixed me up, they worked miracles as far as im concerned...n god bless aneurin bevan.

the NHS is the 8th wonder of the world, and its being systematically abused, and mismanaged.. our nurses and doctors are seciond to none... and our managers are useless idiots who see medicine as the same as filling shelves at tesco... which it isnt.

give the hospitals back to the nurses... theyll wipe out mrsa in weeks... we dont need managers, we need matrons.

My mum suffered from bowel and liver cancer and as we live in Gibraltar there are no oncologists here she was referred to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. We had to travel every 3 weeks back and forth and everything like the plane tickets, taxi and accomodation plus the hospital visits and treatments was paid for her. The person that accpompanied her which was usually me also received some help like the plane tickets and depending on my wages then they work out what I was entitled to. Atleast it helped me with the accomodation which was really expensive. Sometimes when we went to London for her chemo we did not know how long we were going to be there as my mums blood count was very low and could not have it that day so we had to stay there another week before coming home. This carried on for about a year but when my mum was told that the chemo was not working she was offered another treatment but she decided not to tavel anymore to the UK as the flights made her very tired. So this time the NHS in Gibraltar decided that she could go to Spain as Gibraltar and Spain are just beside each other and there is a clinic in the spanish town next to Gibraltar that could give her the same chemo as in the UK. Sadly my mum passed away on May 2006 after fighting against cancer for a year and 5 months but to finish answering your question I have not had a bad experience with the NHS they did all they could to help us.I wish you and your family especially your son all the best for the future. God Bless and Good Luck.

No. I was ill all last year and the NHS mis-diagnosed me. Then when I found out I needed an operation the NHS doctor said 'Oh we will just cut you open and if you bleed too much we will remove something'...hmmm...when I asked the length of the op he said 'Depends on when I end my breakfast. In the end I had no option but to go private as my life was practically on hold as I was so ill. I know not everyone has this option - but if you can afford it I would go private. They were so caring and looked after me so well. They told me every step of the way what was going on. Good Luck with your son.

On the whole I'm OK with the treatment I get. The only gripe I have is that my doctor is reluctant to prescribe enough blood testing strips to monitor my diabetes.

The NHS are not as good as they should be.....Why could'nt they save my dad of lung cancer. I would have given them £2000.
