My girlfriend goes on and on about how her previous boyfriend, Brad always helped with the dishes, always helped clean the house, always helped her make dinner, etc. etc. I know Brad just lost his job. Should I offer to hire him as a housekeeper to shut her up, or would that be inviting trouble?

your girlfriend should realize that her ex isn't a part of her life anymore no matter what he used to do. and she's only trying to create some sort of a presence for him around her.
tell her to move on. and whatever happens to brad is neither your business. and just in case you're really asking if u should hire him as a house keeper the answer is NO.
if that's the only way to shut her up you're better off without her.

Normally it takes years and years of alchohol abuse to die from such a cause. My ex mother in law is a total alchoholic, drinks captain morgans rum every morning, afternoon, and night, and she is still ticking. An 18 year old could not possibly have had time to drink enough to die of liver failure strictly from drinking. I would say there is most likely some other underlying cause. And of course it is not his fault. Im sure he is upset, but ... it is his *ex* girlfriend, and if they were only together a few weeks, it does not sound all that serious. He will get over it in time.

Offer to temporarilly hire him when she talks about him again and be serious about it! Tell her that perhaps you could learn a thing or two from him and that it is worth the trial for her love and approval... OR .. you could learn a thing or two about her in this process and the fact that you dont need her if she is constantly comparing you to her ex! Tell her to run back to her perfectly helpful but jobless ex boy and you will go on to find a girl who compares you to a psychotic ex boy who had REAL problems that mattered. this will make you feel real good and much more appreciated!

I would have to say no, if she always wants to talk about past boyfriends then you should retaliate or talk about past girlfriends and see how she feels. I don't know if she likes him so much why did they break up ask her and see what she says.
