Hello sunnyjomassey,
It is best to apply for your daughter's passport about four weeks before you go to allow for the checking and sending process. It will be your daughter's first passport, so you will need her full birth certificate, (the short one will not be accepted). You will need to include your details and your daughter's dad's details on the application form aswell; along with both your passport numbers. Someone you have known for two years or more will need to countersign the passport application form. You will need two photographs of your daughter; and on one of them, the person who is countersigning needs to write: 'I certify that this is a true likeness of (your daughter's full name), then they must sign underneath and write their name in block capitals aswell, then date it. When you come to the part where your countersigner has to state in what capacity they have known you, they have to say that they have known YOU for 2years or more, NOT your daughter.
Passport applications may seem complex, but they are not really. For a fee of £7, you can get your local post office to check and send it for you. The passport fee is now £45. If you choose to allow the post office clerk to check and send it for you, the total cost will be £52. It would take about ten working days to be processed and returned to you.
Hope this helps. :o)

We just did this last month with both of our daughters age 11 and 6. You need 2 identical photos of them. Kinko's will do them for about 12.00, and their original birth certificates copies will not work. Both parents need to be present as well as the children. Since you are divorced I think your divorce papers showing you have custody along with a notarized letter from your husband will work. I would go to the official passport website to double check. It requires both parents to get passports for children now but they make allowances if needed. I would get them now to be safe. We are stressed waiting for our daughters to arrive since they are really busy because of all the new laws. I think it is about $100 per child per passport. No Cash, checks or M/O only. You can have them done at most post offices and you will have to pay a 30$ fee to have them do it, that is included in your $100. Good Luck.

In the US if you alter the photos at all even by writing on then they are no longer valid. We were told this when we picked up our application. Also in the US no countersigner is needed. So I guess it really depends on where you are from, since the PP states it is different where she is from. I think your best bet is to check the website for your country.

I wouldn't leave it until only a month before. Depends on where you live. In the US the Passport Service says it takes about 6 weeks. It's never taken that long for us to get one renewed, but lots of people are getting new passports this year because of the new rules.

If you are talking about getting her a new US passport ... to obtain a passport for the first time, you need to go in person to a "passport acceptance facility". You can get one faster if you live near one of the 13 regional passport agencies. You must make an appointment for this service. For more information to http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html It always pays to get your passport early to avoid that stress if you can.

Depending on how old your daughter is, check to see if she needs some sort of documentation from you that it is OK for her Dad to take her on this trip.

Best to get it now whilst before the summer rush starts at the passport office and whilst you have time should the passport office take their time.
