Well that is what the story of the Bible...and it is one story...is all about.
The King of the Jews is to be their Messiah....but the Jews didn't accept their Messiah when he came ...instead they rejected Him and crucified Him....and it was all foretold in the book of Isaiah hundreds of years before, that they would do so. Read Isa: 53:6
And because they rejected Him, God allowed the "Gentiles"...all those who were not Jews to hear about Jesus...and many of them have believed on Him first....it is called the Church Age....and there is a day coming when The Jews will realize that Jesus was their Messiah, and will mourn for all they did in rejecting Him....and God will forgive them and then He will be anointed their King.
That is what all the struggle over the temple is about....they think the Messiah is still coming.....but one day their eyes will be opened and they will realize....it is foretold in the Bible, just as Jesus' death was foretold.
What also will happen is that their King, Jesus will reign on earth and all the earth will also know that He is King. ...The Bible tells a fascinating story.....of what was, what is, and what will be.....

Since Mary J. Juana is illegal, they won't be able to make the traditional annointing oil. So, its not likely to happen.
Also, Jesus said that the End of Times will happen during the lifetime of his disciples. And it happened just like he said...around 75 C.E., the Romans tore the temple down.
So don't worry about it. It all came and went, and no one noticed because they were expecting the world to explode.

The only anointment of Jesus as king was done by the Romans
But assuming here and on historical evidence a priest would do it. They always have. Unfortunately they still do. The king bows his head to the archbishop to receive the crown. Presidents and prime ministers and ministers are sworn in by representatives of the church catholic orthodox whatever.

I've often wondered about that. Since they do not accept Jesus as the Messiah, they must still be awaiting him. Surely at least some must wonder when he will appear.

That will when he arrives. Whose kidding who here? Here we all are saying the other is wrong because of our own indoctrination. Get a grip people! Think outside of the box or die enslaved by your own mistakes. Just a little bit of crap thrown our way.

There is only one King, and His name was (IS) YAHOSHUA! (and there is no other name under Heaven by which men can be saved) "JEW" meant YAHUDIM- worshipers of YHVH. Since they don't use that word, they are not! See Rev 2:9 and Rev. 3:9.
