Here's my sister and brother-in-law's theory and I'm inclined to think they're right what do you think?
They took a class at the local university not to long ago, and I had forgotten this, however they said that in times of war the residing president CAN elect to remain in office. They feel that is the reason Bush has done everything he can to extend the war.
What are your thoughts?

This is not Venezuela, therefore, he can attempt to stay in office, but he will not achive that goal, because in America the PEOPLE is the one who decides who will govern us.

I am a Republican and respect our President, but I think that he is WRONG, and our troops should come out of Iraq NOW. It is incredible the amount of money spent in the Iraq war, and yet when we ask our leaders for universal health plan and funds for education, or even provide true help to the really needy, the government never had enough funding.

Am I missing something or is war more important for our leaders than health and education?

I don't agree.

Edit to add:

I did find this on the web (maybe this is where that idea came from, but I don't think this can happen again):
The need for steady leadership during World War II (1939-1945) made it possible for Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt to break the tradition by winning four successive elections between 1932 and 1944. In a reaction against Franklin Roosevelt’s extended presidency, in 1951 Congress and state legislatures approved the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits a president to two elected terms. The amendment also prohibits a person from running for election a second time if he or she has already served more than two years of a term to which someone else had been elected.

Your assumption is that Bush only wants power. The local university is primarily dominated by liberals who have an entirely different world view than conservatives. Their ideologies are neo-marxist. What they do is to project the "power" doctrine of dialectical materialism onto Bush who doesn't believe that.
How well do you personally know Bush? Where did you get your evidence?

That's completely absurd. Some people dream up the most ridiculous things as an excuse for their anger.

They can't prove it and I can't prove they are wrong. Wait until the election comes up and you'll see there was no foundation to that nonsense.

Interesting...

I bet there are many reasons to why he still has troops over there. Some positive, some negative. But now that you've mentioned this, I'd bet a million bucks that this is floating around in the back of his mind.
