B1tches can come into season any age from 6 months onwards. Occasionally up to 18 months. B1tches do tend to come into season in Spring & autumn, so it could be any time now - or she may just decide in her own time, especially as she is a rescue. If you do decide to have her spayed, wait until 3 months after she's had her first season as most vets think this is the optimum time to spay - the uterus is smaller & there is less blood supply around. Very sensible of you to wait until she has settled in with you & built up her strength for what is, after all, major surgery.

A dog comes in heat approximatley every six months during spring and autumn. The season lasts for about three weeks, and is accompanied by a clear liquid from the vulva. A bloodstained discharge will follow and last for approximately ten days and there will be a thick white discharge that lasts until the season ends.

A dog in season will develop great cunning at openind doors, forcing open windows or crawling under very low fences in order to get out. So take precautions!

Well she is at the right age to come into heat, but she might not have one untill she's 1yr plus, theres nothing to worry about if you dont see any sign of one untill then.As for feeding her up,vets prefer to operate on a slim dog,a fatter dog poses more problems during the operation, and some bitches are prone to gaining weight after the operation so you dont want her to be massive.I would pop down to the vets and have a chat about it,im sure they will do the operation as soon as you want.Good luck.

It can happen at 8 mos already. You want to spay your dog BEFORE the first heat. I never heard of being too thin to spay. If the dog is healthy, do it now. Feed her up?? for what?? skinny dogs and people get surgery too. In fact its better to be thinner than heavy.
