OK...so perhaps there are just a few horses in the race...and two that finish above the last horse cause gate interference, they get dq'ed...then the others cause interference with the last horse during the race...then the only horse that doesn't get dq'ed gets first...( one day i caught a trifecta with a horse that actually finished second, one that finished 4th and one 5th due to disqualifications...)

Two-horse race (match race) and the horse that finishes first fouls the other horse in some way: winner disqualified, the horse that finishes last becomes the winner.
