I have a small terrier type dog, mongrel. She's 8 months old and eats a full tin of food a day, with some treats for being good. When I bring her walking she sniffs out any thrown away food, KFC is her fave, although I seen her turn her nose up at crisps. She loves yoghurts and harasses me until I give her the pot.
Is this beacuse she is growing, she gets brought on 2 walks a day and is ok to give a dog yoghurt.
Totally ignorant I know.

Sounds like a healthy terrier to me. Some dogs will just keep eating everything you give them and some things that you don't. Splitting her meal into two is a good idea but stick to the same routine and feeding times.

Treats are ok for training and if she is good but dont use them as food for her as she might start to prefer them to her proper meal. You could also try a high protein complete dry food that will fill her up and give her more energy. There are lots on the market Bakers is good and will fill her up.

I;d ask a vet... but dogs sometimes just eat and eat and eat, if food is there and they can get it they will eat it until they puke lol
The puppy is obviously getting used to having lots of food in the day and snacks, and this is part of the routine now.
I;d stick with the tin of dog food and cut out the treats.
She'll soon get the idea her food is at a certain time and thats all she gets.
If you are feeding her yoghurt, crisps and kfc you could risk her developing health problems. They make puppy food for a reason, please dont feed the dog our human crap :(

She must be eating dog food instead of kfc and yogurt. It is normal for dogs to be hungry, my dogs beg whenever I have food lol. So just feed her once a day and she will be alright. Most dogs are greedy keep an eye on her weight and if you want to give her a treat now and then you can get dog treats at the supamarkets for cheap. Cut the kfc and yogurt immediatly. If fruit is in the yogurt the citric acids can kill her and choking on a small chicken bone could require surgery. It happened to my nanas dog they havnt had bones since. Her poor chihuahua :(

All dogs will always try and eat pretty much anything that is ediable and under their nose. However young dogs like yours are particularly greedy. Its because they are growing and because they are just greedy!
Try and stop her from scavenging for rubbish on the street because one day something might make her really ill.
If she looks healthy and is lively and fit then you are feeding her the right amount.
Don't let her beg for your yoghurt because it teaches her bad manners and she might try and snatch food out of peoples hands.
Although its tough ignore her when she begs and eventually she won't bother any more.
By the way - there is nothing wrong with giving her the pot to lick out when you have finished so long as she isn't rushing you or interupting your snack - because that is going to teach her to be rude!
She sounds sweet.

Is she getting any dried nuts or just tinned food? Nuts are much better for them as they also help to keep their teeth clean. I would also be sure to worm her but i think dogs of any age are natural beggers and want what you have and will try eat anything they find on walks so id take that as normal behaviour not as a sign of hunger. I dont see any harm in giving her yoghurt but maybe just give her the pot to lick out when ur finished :) hope this helps, good luck!!

You should try adding some dry bread to her tinned food and split it into two meals, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. She will be hungry a lot because she is growing and if she runs around a lot then she will be burning a lot of energy. Dogs will always sniff a things thrown away in the street because their noses are so sensitive everything smells interesting to them. And yes it's OK to give dogs yogurt

Are you allowing your dog to have cooked chicken bones?!? This is totally not OK for her. You must put your garbage where she cannot reach it. Dogs die from eating cooked bones.
Do not let your dog bully you, no matter how cute she might be. You will make your dog a picky eater. No need to punish her - just ignore the begging totally. Don't ever feed her from your table. It's totally fine to give treats, but it sounds like your dog would really benefit from learning some tricks to earn her food. She sounds like she's really food-motivated, which is great. She'll be easy to train. Here are some sites to look at:

OMG, we have two jack russell puppies and all I can say is DON'T give in to what they want. Feed them at designated meal times, give them treats when they do well but leave it at that!

I know it's hard not to give in to them but you have to stay being the 'alpha male/female' otherwise she'll start taking advantage.

Dogs are very clever and if they know they can get you to do something for them they will get worse and worse.

She will get fat if she continues to eat so try to stick to the guidelines on the back of tins of food and biscuits etc. Our two girls are 5 months old and they have some biscuits and a half a tin between them per day :-)

Good luck and be strict! Be a good dog owner! :-)

most dogs are scavengers, she's probably not hungry just greedy. If you stop feeding her at the table etc, she will soon realise begging doesn't work.
What about feeding her a good quality complete food instead of tinned stuff. Tinned food is rubbish it's usually about 60- 80% moisture, so you are buying a tin of water really.
