try to restart your computer
if still not running, check your startup list, if they all exist in the list, try to run your antivirus from the start->programs menu

In Msconfig, go to the Startup tab
Put a check mark in front of each of the items you want to load on bootup

When you select the normal mode sometimes certain start up applications get cut from running. You can select and turn them on by going back into msconfig and adjusting them under services and start up tabs.

make sure they are checked in the startup section in msconfig.

Sounds like a registry issue. restore your computer back to when it was normal if you have winxp, or win me (and i think win2k), with system restrore or do a search on internet on how to restore registry through the command prompt if u have win98 or you have no restore points. save your important file before doing this.
Get a registry check program.
