Yes, I enjoy walking too!

I am most fortunate in that my workplace is about equidistant (around 45-50 minutes) walk from either my home or from the school my wife works at and our daughter attends. If I took the bus it would take me the same time, so why not?

I'm also lucky in that I found a job that finishes an hour before they finish school so I can walk to school, meet up with them and get a lift back home!

People do seem to think it a long way to walk, but I think that's because they haven't tried it. It's a great way to wind down after work and, despite the odds, it rains far less then you'd imagine. And this is the UK!

I can't see that I'd give it up unless it became impractical. Maybe when I'm older I might feel different but at 50 it's fine.

I think people get used to using a car or bus. And certainly when the family are rushing to down breakfast and get ready it's nice knowing the drive will only take 10 minutes. But I like the pace of walking when I can.

Thanks for asking!

I don't understand why people would think it's strange! I would probably walk to work if it wasn't 15miles away. Parents drive their kids to school are the worst influence ever! I make my son walk to school whatever the weather, it's only 15mins walk away, but some children live even closer and get a lift!
I wish I could walk more, I try to walk 40mins a day 3times a week with the baby in his buggy if the weathers good, but doing shopping with children can be hard work and they don't like helping with the carrying so I have become very dependant on my car and therefore lazier.
Good on you for doing so! There's nothing wrong with it at all.

I think you're very fortunate. It's relaxing and you are exercising twice a day. You see and appreciate your surroundings - changing seasons, trees, flowers, people, etc., which you would miss if you drove to work. You're saving money and helping the environment. When lived in London I walked 1 mile to the train station twice a day; five days a week. Then walked from the tube to the office and every lunchtime walked from the office on Piccadilly to Oxford Street. I never gained weight, ate pretty much anything and had a great pair of toned legs!!! I now live in car-crazy dependent Los Angeles and it's miles to go from A to B. I wish I could walk to work. Keep it up and to hell with other people think. There are no downsides to your pedestrian commute.

When I was a student I would walk to and from college every day, as lack of funds usually made taking the bus out of the question. Despite the car fumes I could breath easily, kept to my optimum weight, slept well, and was generally physically and mentally healthier.

Once I graduated I got a job, a car, and a 30 minute commute. I leave early in the morning and get home late at night, sometimes only seeing sunlight for a short while. I'm overweight and unhealthy due to lack of exercise and too many take-aways, and suffer from occasional insomnia.

On top of that I have a £60 a week petrol bill to run a car which spews out polluting and dangerous gases every day.

You tell me which form of transport is best... walking or car?!

Yeah I walk to work too.
We live out in the countryside and I work at the local Primary School that my Daughter attends, it's only about three quarters of a mile away but we walk there and back everyday unless the weather is particularly bad.
We probably only go in the car about twice a month.
It's a great way of having a nice walk in the country everyday and good execise for us both. Too many kids these days don't walk anywhere.

At the ripe old age of 33 it must be a battle :)) Only joking. I do a lot of walking specially in Summer and all over the woods. I love walking and i agree with you that it is relaxing. You have time to think about things and see more whats going on around you than when you are driving. I agree with you, nice to know there are people who enjoys walking as well. Have a lovely day:)))

I did that twice a week or so when I worked in North Wales and lived in Chester, but it took me two hours. I was 25 at the time, and of course it got frowned upon. Nowadays I work 20 miles from home and start at 7 so I couldn't possibly walk (unless I'd want to ruin my social life altogether).. But I wish I could. It is relaxing and healthy. On the other hand, I'll get my bicycle available again soon and that's a great alternative.

I walk to work everyday a brisk walk to the office the I have stairs to the office on the 6th floor.

Going home I get off the bus two stops before mine and walk to the station about a 10 min walk and I arrive before the bus!

Walking clears my head and I can look at things that would missed on public transport. If I was really brave then I would cycle but in central London maybe not that brave.

Keep walking I will and I am 16 years older than you.

I walk to work every day too in pite of I'm now 29. Nobody find this strange because I live 500 m away from my work.

I don't know u go to work on foot. May be because u don't have a car, or may be u feel really concerned in ecology.

Anyway if somebody tells ur crazy just tell them that's not their business, and u don't need to show off with a big car.

I don't think it is strange to walk to work especially if you can do it. What i find strange is people like my next door neighbour jumping in her car and driving her kid to school round the corner?!! Even she drives to the shop down the road which is only 5 minutes walk!!! Nutter!

Whats wrong with walking and getting a bit of fresh air??

Walking is great.... especially early in the morning with fresh crisp air. I used to walk to the bus stop early mornings when i had to travel long distance to college or school. I enjoyed the morning air before it got polluted again.

Cycling is a good form of transport too but around here its too risky, you'd get killed speeding down our hill or be stoned by kids with ASBOs. ha ha

Keep walking mate! If it makes you feel good then why stop. It keeps you healthy too.

I don't have a car and prefer to leave it at that because I worry that I may slowly become a car addict like my neighbour?? Don't want to get into my car and drive next door to visit a friend?! haha
Walking is usually quicker than all that trouble getting in a car and getting ready to move, park etc.

I support the environment and like try and be green as possible.
