What can parents do to ensure that their children do not become gaming addicts?

Well I think you have to see if the child appears to have only one interest in life. If a child seems to have only one hobby that absorbs all of their free time, then that would be a warning sign. Now if that child also starts to miss out in other parts of life such as grades, relationships, friendships, and social events, then clearly the problem is more serious.

I think a parent has to encourage a variety of interests, including healthy interests such as sport or bike riding or something out doors that involves exercise. A parent may also need to impose restrictions to ensure that one interest does not completely dominate a child's life.

In all fairness however, many modern games involve complex problem solving, fast reactions, understanding of strategy, tenacity, setting goals and accomplishing them and many other important life skills. Games these days are not like pac man or space invaders. They can be vast games with incredibly complex missions that require a fair amount of skill to complete. So even if your child is overly obsessed with gaming, it is not to say that his time is entirely being wasted.

Simple.Observe them.If they play for more than 2 hrs,you should know that they are starting to be addicted. If they play more than 5hrs, FORCE THEM TO GO ON THEIR BOOKS, but before that, plan the study time nicely.Make the study time fun like their computer games.Use materials. ENSURE THEY DO NOT BECOME GAMING ADDICTS BEFORE THEY GET ON TO 10 YRS OLD. 10 yr old exams starts to get hard. It's like:
Mary has 3 units
David has 5 units
Both has 64
a) How much has Mary?
b)If David gives 25 to Mary, and Mary throws away 3/7 of it,how many has Mary?
Use materials like drawings of computer characters or a toy to express the characters.Keep on doing a good job on it!

Too much attachment to that game and not involving into activities.

Find out what the kid likes apart from the game you mentioned and try to get the kid into outdoor activities of their interest but take it step by step, don't be pushy.

When a person sit in front of the game instead of going to work or school or evern out of the house I would think they have a problem.
