i have never done a pull up. i am overweight but i have for the past two months have been hitting the gym hard and been doing a lot of cardio and weight lifting (lost 19 ibs) my question is whats a good sign that i can successfully do a pull up without actually doing one?

i think that you shouldn't ask a question like that. its like you are setting yourself up to not have to ever do a pull up, and ultimately noy reaching your goal. just try it, and if you can't do it you at least have some idea of how much work you ave to do. Just keep chuggin away, its sounds like your doing good, and you will know you are to your goal when one day you get your chin all the way up there, and once you've done that, aim for two :-)

Try push ups. If you could do it 10 times then you can definitely handle pull ups too.

When you feel less heavy in your body and more flexible. Go easy now, now overdo it or you might pull something.
