Not necessarily by brushing. Gingivitis is the biggest cause of tooth loss and is a gum disease that is caused by inadequate toothbrushing. The gums shrink back exposing the root which causes the teeth to become loose due to bone loss. This cannot be reversed. Please remeber that plaque is a very soft substance and there is no need to press down on your toothbrush at all , an electric toothbrush is more effective to stop you brushing too hard. Corsodyl is excellant for gingivitis. Use twice a week.

receding gums are caused by many things but mainly your brushing technique, this should be gentle (you don't need to scrub!) and in small circular motions paying attention more to where the tooth meets the gum rather than just the tooth, using a small headed medium brush, such as oral-b brand, not cheap ones I'm afraid! also you may want to start using floss or inter-dental brushes (boots sell these) and a good mouth wash such as Corsodyl. and make sure you change your brush every 10-12 weeks, bacteria loves to grow there! other factors are smoking, if you do you may want to think about giving up as the smoke kills the good bacteria in your mouth hence gum disease is high in smokers and acidic drinks also contribute. make an appointment with your dental hygienist for a thorough clean and scale, she/he will also have excellent advice for you. hope this has helped you some

I actual have a similar difficulty, i'm fifty 5 and it is been occurring enormously in view that i become 40. I were given informed a similar about brushing yet too late. Our mums and dads let us know to sweep plenty to save the tooth in solid situation and the dentists say do a lot less to save the gums, won't be able to win both way. the in trouble-free words advice i am going to supply is do have any fillings mandatory finished on the newly uncovered section because it has no tooth, deteriorates speedier than the section which must be outdoors and if surpassed over can actually get cavities and make you hyper gentle to warm or chilly beverages and to sweet food that sticks, which incorporates chocolate which i recognize we ought to continually no longer be eatting besides. If the receding is on one teeth in trouble-free words I did have a chum who had that manage through the dentist reducing the gum each and every area then pullung it over the uncovered component of tooth and sewing the perimeters at the same time yet I actual have not had that finished in my opinion and besides my receding is throughout.

Buy the new toothpaste from Colgate called Time Control, gum strengthening. On the tube it states that it fortifies gums, helps fight gum recession and root cavities. I bought some yesterday. When you clean your teeth make sure you do it gently with a medium toothbrush or an electric one is good. Brush your gums gently too at the same time.

hiya,
I have the same problem and my dentist has told me I brush my teeth too hard too. She has also said mine is a hereditary thing aswell so no matter what I do, I will still lose my teeth in the next two years!!! I use the colgate 360 toothbrush(soft) and use interdental brushes to clean in between the teeth. she reckons this will prolong the inevitable. maybe you have relatives who have had problems with their teeth. Mine is my dad. xxx

Gum disease and poor cleaning technique. If it continues it can expose so much of your teeth that you will have to have them taken out.
