911! I'm dead serious guys.. please give me the most 'polite' way how to tell my colleague that he really have this terrible body odor. whenever he's getting near, i'm literally turning purple. If i wont tell him asap, i think i'm gonna faint in the office. Help PLEASEEEEEEEEEE! (I feel shy to tell my manager coz i think better to lessen his embarassment.)

I know it's tough to confront this man with such a thing, but to remedy this problem, your only choice is going to be to tell him. You can do so in a polite manner, perhaps this man has a physical problem which causes this, so be respectful. But on the other hand, you have to work around this man, and if this odor is affecting you so badly, then this issue needs to be addressed.

If you present this to this man in a respectful manner, I think it will be well received. If not, and this person decides to take your words to heart, then your other option will be to bring this up to your manager.

I'm quite sure that other people in your office have noticed this too. Surely you cannot be the only one. So if you have others in your corner who can attest to this, you might want to bring them on board with you.

My only other solution...mail him soap and deodorant, and tell him to use it! OR.... you can buy clothes pins for the entire office. That will send a message!

Best wishes!

People of different cultures do tend to smell different from each other. Apparently, westerners smell very fatty to the Japanese, for instance, due to the vast differences in our diets with ours including so many dairy products, hence our "typical" smell. Your colleague probably eats a highly spiced diet and this is reflected in his natural odour. It really need not be connected with washing though some people, even in this day and age, do not wear an anti-perspirant or deodorant as a matter of course and this would probably help a bit. It's a tricky question as not only culture but race is involved here as one answerer has already pointed out. Is it your place to tell him about this? Are you his manager? Have others complained? Does he sweat a lot at work because of the nature of the job? Does he sweat perhaps through pressure/stress/ nerves? Are you complaining about an "armpit" smell or a general scent that he gives off? You ask for advice but I have none to give other than to say that such a situation needs a sensitive approach no matter who is involved. Because all of the above factors come into this you have to decide first what exactly is the nature of your problem before taking any action or saying anything to your colleague.

Leave him an anonymous gift of some deoderant along with a note telling him about his problem. Also explain that you are aproaching it this way because you don't want to embarass him.

The best thing you should do is you go tell him by giving him perfume or body spray in his birthday. Maybe it's embarassment but lucky him to know you as a friend

HAHA ! I ran into situations like urs very often. If he was a friend, i tell him/her. If not..then i don't bother & keep a distance, but if he/she a co-worker or someone that has to be near me due to school or work,..i would just tell him/her or write an anonymise note, but usually i speak out cauz if he/she were unfeeling enough to care about others then i don't care about telling them & usually they don't get upset cauz they must have been told before. I had of friend who passes gas infront of everyone. I took him on a ride one day (fooled him) & dumped his sorry but* on the highway. He stopped doing it since then.

Buy him a "gift"; deoderant, body wash, and cologne..axe makes a combo pack. Tell him you got it : "just because". If he doesn't get the hint, then next time he stinks, smile cutely, and say, " Didn't you like your gift?"

I think that you as a friend you should just come
out st8 and tell him.

Friends are to save other friends from embarrassment
such as in this spot you are in.

I rather have a friend tell me I have B/O then to
have people stay away from me.

Just tell him, you are my friend and I have to tell you this
because I care.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
