Why do we pray? Because we want to achieve some purpose, like when we are in danger or when we want something to enjoy or when we want for other's benefit etc...
Thus, in general it can be said, that we usually pray ,
1. out of fear.
2. out of duty or gratitude to the Lord for removing us from danger
3. out of love and want to engaged in the Lord's service impelled by pure unselfish love.

Prayers are for many purposes.
1. to achieve material sense gratification
2. to achieve impersonal brahamjyoti
3. to be engaged in pure loving devotional service to the Lord.

Of the three goals the first two are material temporary and therefore the happiness derived out of that comes to and end. Whereas the happiness derived out of the third prayer's end, viz., bhakti (devotional service) is the one's original constitutional position as a part and parcel of the Lord.

So, the prayer to engaged in pure loving devotional service to the Lord, is the meaning of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra,

HARE KRISHNA HARE KRISHNA
KRISHNA KRISHNA HARE HARE
HARE RAMA HARE RAMA
RAMA RAMA HARE HARE

The meaning of the above prayer is as follows,
"O Supreme Energy of Krishna and O Lord Krishna, please engage me in Your eternal service." or in other words,
"O energy of the Lord [Hare], O all-attractive Lord (Krishna), O Supreme Enjoyer (Rama), please engage me in Your service."

Very simple. Whom do you like most, an ideal or a name of some great persona. May be something from your religion. A simple name, syllable or verse, sentence is enough to start your prayer. But, very important, you have to have 100% faith and concentration while praying. You have to contain your flickering mind and thought on this for a while. Even 2 -5 minutes concentration is enough in the beginning. Try to disconnect from rest of the things around you. You can close your eyes, ears for that matter and good fresh air intake will help in the process of prayer. Just repeat either loudly or silently in your mind and just think that your achieving what you are asking for. Job done. Things will start straightening slowly but surely. For an an example one can recite or repeat " I am happy" and it will make you happy. Try for a 7 days. Good luck.

Just close your eyes, concentrate on God, try to be pure from heart. It doesn't matter what language you pray what matters is how you pray. Don't command God but request him. Remember prayers go up nd blessings come down. So, go on and make a wish. You don't need a shooting star for it to come true but a pure heart. You have the power to make your wishes come true but dont forget that God wont doeverything for you. If there are things you can do, you should do by yourself and not leave everything onGod!!!!

Go to the nearest temple and sit with legs folded. Close your eyes and relax. That is called prayer. Sitting and standing and lifting your *** for 3 minutes with some meaningless arabic sentences is not prayer but mental sickness.

Prayer is communication with God, the Bible tells us to approach him with confidence (Heb. 4:16) so talk to God like you talk to people, tell him whats on your mind.
