People in a coma aren't necessarily lying down and sleeping. At times, they will talk or move about and these ations may seem conscious ones, but they are not. The patient can't, however, hear well or respond to pain. There is very little brain activity during the first level of a coma, from there (if recovery begins) brain activity gradually increases and the patient is able to respond somewhat and begin to realize what is going on around them.

~He is in a coma. Some say they can hear what's being said around them. I personally don't think they dream or hear.~
