When a wound on my hand became infected it wept lots of green pus. I left it and eventually it did get better, but a when the doctor saw the scar when I went for my yearly check up 4 weeks later he said I was lucky not to have died from such a serious infection (the scar was pretty extreme for the first few years until it faded).
I would take him to the vets. It would be a foolish risk not to.

If you need to keep stopping him licking it is likely that he is still licking it when you are not around.
Best to ring the vet and see about getting the wound cleaned... maybe with salt water or something (check before doing anything).
Then you should definately put the collar-cone on him...I know they don't like it much but it is the only way to stop licking... my dog hated it at first but after a day or so he had got used to it and was walking around as if he wasn't wearing it at all. They only need it for a couple of weeks max but it does work.
Just ring the vets for advise... they may say to bring him in or they may suggest a solution to clean it with.
I hope it all goes well :)

Thats is an infection. Take him to the vet as soon as you can. He will need a course of antibiotics. Well done for spotting it and try and stop him from chewing or licking the area.

Most vets don't charge even half a visit fee for a recheck, especially on a surgical patient. I would take the dog in since you can see the puss, it is obviously infected. The dog will need oral and probably tiopical antibiotics. Call Asap, and see if they can squeeze you in an appointment.

I would contact your vet and ask about the greeny pus. They should be able to tell you by phone if it is normal or something they need to see him about.

You should definitely go to the vet and buy one of those cones to stop the dog drom licking it any further which is probably why it was infected in the first place.

He has an infection developing, that is what the puss is. The vet will give a jab or some antibiotics, he will be fine.
