I can tell you from personal experience that it's not too bad. I had all my teeth pulled and dentures fitted right away last November. I was scared too before I went. I went to a sedation dentist-he gave me a pill to take the night before and another one to take one hour before my appointment. I felt slight pressure as the teeth were being pulled but that was all. I had immediate dentures put in which helped keep the swelling down. Is this what you are doing? I was given pain meds but found I didn't need them, didn't even need tylenol. Everyone is different though. Follow the dentist 's instructions afterwards, rinsing your mouth out etc. It will take a little while to get used to the dentures and eating but you'll soon sort that out. Only thing with the immediate dentures is that as the swelling in my gums goes down, the dentures feel a bit loose. My dentist told me this would happen, it takes about six months apparently for the gums to return to normal. I use a denture adhesive to hold them in firmly-my dentist gave me a "starter kit" of sample adhesives and a denture cleaning kit. I have been back a couple of times to have the dentures trimmed in spots that were causing a lot of soreness. Dentures aren't always perfect at the first fitting, a tiny little point that can barely be seen can feel like a needle scraping your gum so do go back and have the dentist check the dentures if this happens. I will go back in about 4 months and have my permanent dentures fitted-my dentist tells me I will get a new permanent set, friends tell me I will only get my existing denture relined to fit more comfortably. Whichever happens is ok with me. I'm happy with my new teeth and can smile again. Good luck and don't be scared.

Physically taking the teeth out should not be painfull at the time of extraction-you mill most likely just feel alot of pressure-but not pain. Due to the number of teeth you will be getting extracted-I'm sure your dentist or oral surgeon will prescribe you some pain meds! As for the dentures? Be prepared for some sore spots!! If you think about it, you are sort of having your mouth amputated, and getting a prosthetic one! Your muscles and mouth will need time to retrain themselfs! You will have to learn to chew all over again.....don't be scared, I'm sure you are in good hands---and think about the positive side, you will have a much healthier mouth!!! Just be strong & listen to the advice your dental office gives you.

Well both of my parents have had that done to them. My mom had all her bottom teeth pulled out at one time, and well they both said it was a little painful, but not too much that you can't stand it. I think you can handle it, many folks do it, and they are totally fine. Dont worry, just do it, you won't regret it! :)
