Walter E Brown died in the nay in Jan. 1944. I am trying to find out about him. My son is his grandson.

I do not know where to begin , My grandfather was in the Navy then as well he was in Pearl & Korea , Although je had survived both , until 1981 ..I have tried to research the Ship he was on, So far the U.S. Navy says " We never have had a ship by that name" , ..Yet I have plenty of pictures of my grandfather standing on the deck of a ship that never existed So now they just put me on hold ,and leave me there...
