for a well bred pit bull?
I know the difference between Staffordshire Terriors, American Bull Dogs and American Staffordshire Terriors, but never thought that a AmStaff was anything but a glorified Pit Bull.
If you know any sites that explain a difference, or if they are the same... please let me know.
I own a pit bull, love him to peices, would like to know if this whole time I have been calling him an Amstaff incorrectly.

Here is the article you are looking for, but you will love the whole website! > http://www.workingpitbull.com/amstaffpit.htm

In Part:
At the turn of the last century, the American Dog Breeders Association and the United Kennel Club were already registering pit bulls. When the American Kennel Club accepted the pit bull into their stud books in 1936, UKC and ADBA registered pit bulls got their registered names changed to "Staffordshire Terriers. To add to the confusion, the name "Staffordshire Terrier" was changed to "American Staffordshire Terrier" in the 1970's when the AKC decided that the pit bulls still being bred in England had enough variation in type to warrant being called a different "breed".

So, while the dogs all originated from the same group of animals from the United Kingdom, the dog show world turned them into three different "breeds". The American pit bull terrier, the American Staffordshire terrier and the Staffordshire bull terrier.<<<

So, while the AmStaff can be duel registered as an UKC American Pit Bull Terrier, the APBT cannot be duel registered as an Am Staff. The AKC breed standard for the Am Staff is MUCH more defining than the UKC standard for APBTs..

Here are the two breed standards> http://www.akc.org/breeds/american_staffordshire_terrier/index.cfm

It is a different breed, though closely related. The American Staffordshire Terrier is usually a little smaller, with a more sleek/aerodynamic looking head than the American Pit Bull Terrier. There is a some confusion sometimes because while the AKC will only recognize an APBT as an AmStaff, however the UKC will recognize the APBT on it's own, and will not recognize an AmStaff as an APBT.

They are one breed in a group that is lumped together as pit bulls. APBT are large and that is the ukc term. By the way there is nothing wrong with owing a pit bull I do and he is the best dog I have ever had. On the other hand my niece's chocolate lab had to be put down because he became vicious

with the intention to be registered with the yank Kennel club, your dogs's sire and dam ought to both be AKC registered and the breeder must have registered the muddle. If the breeder did not provide you a registration type/registration information even as you acquire the pup, then it received't be registerable. call the breeder and ask in the adventure that they have got the place of work artwork that you want. in case you want to take area in spouse activities such as your dogs (obedience, agility, rally, monitoring) then all you want is an evidence of neuter and he might want to be listed of their buddy application. buddy isn't an identical as registration, yet is more desirable than adequate for most puppy dogs.
