Ascites (fluid in the abdomen) is frequently caused by liver problems. The heartworm treatment may have damaged the liver. Here is a good discussion of liver problems, by Dr Mike, DVM> http://www.vetinfo.com/dliver.html

Take your dog to the vet. Swollen intestines or stomach is a sign of something very serious going on- possibly a blockage from a foreign body, or parasites. Be prepared by bringing in a stool sample.

There are homeopathic vets who can cope such as your canine for such situations. seek for one close on your area. canine are equivalent to us in many respects and fluid strengthen can happen by using ascites or kidney issues etc.
