if we talk about the definition of sin in the bible it is a transgression of the law (or the word) of God many people wonder what about the people who do not even know what is contain in the bible, how could they transgress it, but the bible has a statement about this: In Rome 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
Rom 2:12 for as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) “ In this verse it is clear that even though the person did not know what is contained in the law but God put a law on their heart ( for example; Bible said “Deut 5:17 Thou shalt not kill. Even though you didn’t know this verse, you know deep in your heart that it is wrong to kill someone)

The contributing factor to make one person sin is his willingness to do it and not to do it (committing and omitting) like in the verses “Jam 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” you will see in this verse that the very moment you know the good thing you must do and you willingly refuse it to do it not you are already committing a sin (so this is a perfect example of omitting and committing: you omitting to do good and committing not to do the good that you knew)

The greatest sin of all is religion, the promulgator of misleading information . if it furthers life it is good and if it furthers death it is bad. This is the the most base concept for establishing a code of honor . Otherwise we can start with the Justine code of Rome for which we can thank ost of the judicial system and hopefully some day ethics will discover that vengeance is not necessarily good when it comes to serving justice at it's highest level. There is plenty of room for improvement yet. Ethics are just a more well tuned form of morality. Telling people that death is eternal life is a sin...!!!!

Read the Bible. It's clearly defined in there. Then once you have that knowledge you will be able to recognize that voice of God some people call their conscience telling you "no" or "yes" in situations you find yourself in. At least that's been the case for me. Once I knew God & knew the truth of right & wrong it was easy for me to discern what was a sin. But then you still have to choice to make to sin or not. That's the hard part.

Anything that goes against God's ten commandments is a sin:

1 Have no other gods before me (this includes money, and anything else you would hold higher than God, that would cause you to stray from him.)
2 You shall not misuse the name of your God (cursing, etc.)
3 Remember the sabath day and keep it holy (worship on sundays)
4 Honor your father and mother (pretty self explanatory)
5 Do not murder (even wishing someone were dead counts)
6 Do not commit adultery (premarital sex, sexual thoughts about others you are not married to, cheating on your spouse)
7 Do not steal (pretty self explanatory, but includes ideas as well, getting credit for what others have done)
8 Do not give false testimony against your neighbor (lying about someone)
9 Do not covet your neighbor's house (do not drool over their things, formulating plans - even if you're not going through on them - to get their things.
10 You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor (same as 9)

your conscience tells you. i'm sure you know inside what is right and wrong. pray to god to lead your life in his paths.

in Christ.

Sin is a violation of any specific religious law, its teachings and commands. Religious laws are not man made. People believe them as faith. If one has any standard to measure the right or wrong, he can be aware by judging his ommissions and commission thereon.

Muslims firmly believe and strictly practice the teachings/commands of their holy book Quran & their Prophet, which is their Code of Life at all times/places. They have the written, clear and unambiguous
teachings to guide righteous or wrongs, pious or evil, fair or unfair, etc. They follow them blindly in matters of responsibilities, liabilities, rights, daily life, marriage, private & public relation, business, trade, earning & spending, etc. etc. Anybody may read, satisfy, accept and practice it.

Very simple, a sin is something that comes between you and the spirit of god.If you do something that stands between you and the guidance and direction of the spirit. then that thing is a sin, even if its foods. an attachment to a person.a hobby that's gotten out of hand, lust .greed. vanity. attachment, that sort of thing, You must always be a clear vehicle for the spirit .did you get that?right and wrong is a weird subject.is it wrong to eat? NO, is it wrong to get into eating so much it takes you away from your focus. on the spirit.your attention.is taken away from the spirit of God within you, do you ask of the spirit ,do you listen for the answers. do you try to then to folow the guidance of the spirit .do you try to actually do Gods will?do you follow the guidance of God thru his spirit. the spirit of God.?If you do not follow the ways of the spirit then your commiting a sin.if you denie the spirit then you want go to heaven,You must do Gods will to make it to heaven Jesus said, read your bible.

Thanks for your question; it’s responsible and worthy for conduct, to start with, sin is defined as simply as DISOBEDIENCE for every disobedience is a sin,
Secondly man is made with conscience, (sense of right and wrong) and that makes us different from other creatures, now whenever you are on the wrong part, something in you (conscience) will be telling you what you’re about to do or doing is not good before God and man, (If your conscience does not condemn you there means you are not condemn) if you disobey your conscience, there come disobedience (SIN) is occurred.
Forget not the evil one willing to contradict your conscience to push you into sin, listen not to him.

Dear friend, an action which hurt not only others but ourselves is sin or whatever is against our right feeling( conscience) is sin.
all human born innocent and like innocence, on the other word we have a center of recognition which the God granted us, so whenever you decide doing something wrong, it will warn you and you should listen to it, so our conscience is the measure for doing right or wrong provided to listen to it.

We know the difference between right and wrong. God has instilled that in us. Sin is when you do something wrong and you know it isn't right. There are some people that do things that are wrong, but just don't care.

If a Christian sins, it is against his will. One who is regenerate falls rather than dives into sin; he resists rather than embraces it. Any dead fish can float downstream. It takes a live one to swim against the flow. Christians still experience temptations and can sometimes fall into sin, but they are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6). They have God’s Holy Spirit within them to help them say no to temptation, and to convict their conscience of wrongdoing when they do sin.
