people who are un-employed or on a low income can apply for the sure start materntity grant from the 29th week in pregnancy. Your midwife will need to sign the back of the form for you. Generally you get money within 2 weeks of applying. The amount is £500 for each baby expected. You can get the application form from your social security office.
