I think he's trying to not let it get too serious too quickly. If you start going public with the relationship, I suspect that the parents will start to have expectations that this is going to work. This could make it awkward if things are not working out. How would everyone save face?

You met him only once and only a week ago. Involving parents and relatives on both sides at this time would be way too soon. He is not playing; he is being reasonable. He is up to meeting you more so that both of you can better understand each other, just like you said. If you are interested in continuing the communication with him, follow his suggestion and meet again in a group of friends.

He would like to get to know you better before getting a bunch of relatives involved. You may want to insist that you go out in a group a few more times. You will still be able to converse and see what the other is like. Only do what you're comfortable with.

All you have said is soooo confusing. I don't undestand the necessity to tell your parents. Parents ony come in when you need to get serious. If you have just met him you need to know him first.
If you have a bad feeling about himm then don't try to find excuses to avoid him.Go with the flow

You've met once and you already want to tell your parents? You don't know enough about him at this time to know if he is even dating material.

I'd say hang out with him around friends more before you make that decision. What if he is the biggest jerk?

No good. Just tell your parents. He is hiding something and just wants to get him some before your parents find out.
