I'm afraid that Mr. Peanut may misunderstand about Thai communication system. AIS is a mobile system operated by ADVANCE company and do not engage in any land line services. The landline service is under TOT which is a state agency currently registered as a public company in preparing for privatization. The TOT has licensed TRUE, a private company, to install and operate some of land line services in the up-country. TRUE also operates mobile network in thailand, its previous name is ORANGE. Major mobile companies in Thailand are AIS TRUE DTAC HUTCH and TOT.

For your case, please contact local TOT or TRUE office for installation (located at almost all shopping centers. TOT has its office at all provinces). I can't remember the deposit required but I recall that it's somewhere between 1000-2000 bht (please check I can't remember) and 100 bt per month for maintaining the number.

Uh, your question is not getting anyresponses because it's a bit misleading. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint are not in Thailand. They all have reciprocating agreements now. So you should pick one that has good reception around Thailand. There are NOT cell towers all over Thailand. There are cell towers in many places in Thailand. Bangkok is good for all them in general, I prefer DTAC or True, AIS is owned by the family of the former prime minister Taksin and I don't like him so I don't put any money in his pocket. My ex-girlfriend used DTAC in Bangkok but it did not work so well in Buriram her hometown. I have used True and DTAC and I think DTAC was better. Particular phone? Nope, if you already bought a phone, they all work well in Thailand, that I can tell. I just bought a Samsung, 1400 baht and worked great there. I had an old Nokia I bought in Hong Kong and it worked for years without fail. Like I said it's the service. And it's best to find out which works best in each area. Sorry. It will depend on your itinerary. If you are only going to Pattaya and Bangkok, either service will work. If your friends and family is calling on their cell phones it just gets expensive calling on the cell. They all have access to contacting peoples on cell phone in Thailand. Good luck

If she lives in an area with mobile phone service, this would be the preferred route. Laying landline cable is expensive and might takes years (depending upon how many people in the area want phones). If the village does not have phone service, it will be difficult for you. Again, get your finacee a mobile phone; even if she has to go a little ways to find a strong signal, it will be better than getting a home phone with the attendent problems and costs.

TOT is the phone company I use here, if you're in Thailand just call 1222, TOT's call centre number. Or, as one of your previous posters wrote: www.tot.co.th.
I think that the company you use is the one that has installed the lines where you live.

The only company that does home phone service is AIS. You will need to check with them if they are able to get a line to your fiance's address. All depends if there is a phone exchange nearby to lay the line.

Congrats on your marriage plan.

Tell me why your fiance don't know that. lol.....have some friends with same problems, and they find out that their tiny lover girls, spend more time in the bars, looking for new ATM machines.

I don't hope its the same for you, but.........

You have to pay for telephone line. Its about 6000 baht, but if no one have home phone in the area, then its more expensive.

Why can't she use a mobil. ? If she tells you that there is no coverage, then its a lie. Its only few remote places that this
happen.

email me what city she stay, and I will help you.
