I'm 20, and Catholic. I notice Sunday Mass is full of families. However there is a missing age group. Ages 17-27 seem to stop going to church!! This sucks! Because I'm single, and the only girls I tend to go for share the same faith as me... I just think its sexy? Do any guys/girls have this same problem??

I'm an older Catholic, but I've noticed the same thing and talked about it with friends, my priest, and others.

I think that basically what happens is that young adults tend to drift away from their religious roots during the "party years" of college and early career building time. Once they are ready to marry and settle down, they find their way back to their faith "home".

There ARE a pretty decent number of young adults and older teens still attending the Mass. Find a parish that offers the Life Teen Masses, you'll be amazed - they're PACKED with younger people! And the faith and spirit they show!

I've noticed the same thing. Given th age range, the absence of people from that age group might have something to do with people being away at school and/or just begun living on their own, and thus, are not as spiritually disciplined about getting to Church on a weekly basis on their own accord.

Usually around the late 20's through early 30's, young adults have acquired enough bitter truths about the world and realized they actually do need to exercise their faith in God.

That is why we usually see people in their 30s returning to church regularly.

If I had to guess, that's what I would say it was all about.

I used to be Catholic, and was involved in YAM - Young Adult Ministries. It was for people 18-35. See if you can find a church with YAM. Join, and enjoy your peers.

Btw, if you happen to be in Southern California, the church I went to was Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish in Montebello.

Going to church with a hangover is worse than just going to church period.

Try going out on a Saturday night sometime and party, then you'll see what I'm talking about.
