I am asking because I want to go on a free Jewish trip to Israel called Birthright Israel and they say you must be Jewish to go.

If your mother is not Jewish, neither are you unfortunately. The fact that your father is Jewish however, and if you were brought up somewhat Jewish might make a difference to whether they let you go on birthright or not. I hope you get a chance to go, it is a great experience! Take care :-)

No, you are not a Jew by birth, unless your parents had you converted at a young age (usually around age three). If they did this, the synagogue they took you to will have records of the conversion that you will need to supply if you want to take part in a program like Birthright Israel.
You are a Jew by birth *only* if your mother is Jewish.
You can convert now but since most Rabbis won't convert a young person, you will need both your parent's consent to do so.

The current Orthodox position is that you are only Jewish if your mother is Jewish. However, some progresisve branches of Judaism believe you are Jewish if either of your parents were Jewish.

If you claim to be Jewish then you are Jewish. Be careful over there it is dangerous. Anyone can be a Jew. Sammy Davis became a Jew.

Yes you are Jewish. Your father is Jewish and therefore you are Jewish. It is your heritage and you should embrace it. Your dad makes up half of you just like your mom makes up the other. So why would you get the notion that you arent Jewish? Yes you are Jewish.
