It doesn't sound like a fungus since most fungal skin infections itch and in that area of your body the most common fungal skin infection would be ringworm which is generally not blotchy red.

Topical OTC steroids are typically used to reduce itching and swelling neither of which you said you had so I'd discontinue its use as its best not to use medication that isn't going to help you.

Its probably an allergic reaction of some sort, or possibly of fungal origin. Its hard to tell without a picture/ more detailed description of the rash. Perhaps Candida albicans or Seborrheic dermatitis. One thing to ask yourself is if you've changed brands in any personal care products recently. For example soaps, shampoos, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, etc can all cause potential allergic reactions. Your rash is over a large area of your body, so I wouldn't recommend rubbing OTC creams over such a large area. Instead, you can try taking an antihistamine daily. If you can tolerate it, benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a very effective antihistamine.

I'd also recommend washing with a very gentle and mild soap with a limited number of ingredients and fragrances because you don't want to irritate the rash. Something like plain unscented glycerin soap or dove sensitive skin might be useful.

LISTEN UP! I HAD A BLOTCHY RED RASH FOR YEARS BEFORE I FOUND OUT IT WAS A SYMPTOM OF CELIAC'S DISEASE! It can come at later life, or whatever.
Don't get scared, don't ignore this. But your doc may not even know about it because it is rare, 1 in 130. It is a food allergy to gluten, that is to say, many grain food products like wheat, barley, rye, oats... And you can't tell because it comes up days later.
Check out www.celiac.com to download a picture of the rash, because it is quite distinctive: 70% of Celiacs have the rash, but 100% of those that have that rash are Celiacs. Your doctor can test for it - TELL HIM.
It is called "Dermatitus Hepitiformus" (Latin for rash that's NOT herpes.)
It means you have to avoid bread, etc., the rest of your life, if that's what it is -Maybe another food allergy, perhaps?
But if that's what it is - You'll get total relief in 2 weeks by avoiding gluten foods. And you can die young if you don't.
Just found out myself.
Like the difference between Hell and Earth.
It's said that it's an "Hidden Epidemic," otherwise I wouldn't come at you like this. Hope it's just a reaction to your girlfriend's perfume, or peeling mangos on your tummy without an apron.
Good Luck

I know one thing you can try. Take some Benadryl over the counter and see if that does anything as far as clearing it up. The benadryl will make you drowsy; so take it before you go to bed. It sounds like you've had it for a while now. 4 weeks. Sounds like going to the doctor would be a good idea. Good luck. I hope it gets better.

see what the doctor says first if he has no answer for it or just gives it a name like eczema for instance then it will be most likely food related what you have had the past 4 weeks is a result of what you did prior to that cause thats how long before your body reacted, for instance what foods or food you have been over eating ? i cant really tell you anything because i need to ask you questions related to this so tell me what the doctor says first and make sure you ask him how he thinks it came about good luck with the diagnosis

it could be hives or you might have an allergic reaction to the type of detergent you use to wash your clothes. if you put some type of topical antibiotic ointment on it, it should reduce the redness. but i would go to the doctor to make sure you don't have an infection.

Eczema? It sometimes wont respond to topical steroids and is not a fungus.
